The Trail to Becoming a Golden Bear
Summer is a time for us to focus on college explortion and lacrosse camps that allow for players to learn from coaches and players outside of their usual sphere here in Oakland. This summer we were fortunate enough to send eight of our players to the Cal Lacrosse Camps hosted by UC Berkeley at their Memorial Stadium. At the end of June, five lady laxers spent the weekend at Cal learning valuable skills from head lacrosse coach, Brooke Eubanks, as well as current Cal players. Not only were they able to focus on stick work and shooting, but goalie specific training as well. For the boys in late July, head lacrosse coach at Cal, Ned Webster, was able to teach three of our boys about positional play, fundamentals, and team concepts with the help of his current squad. 9th grader, Julio, affirmed that, "It's great spending a full day at Cal and learning from the coaches and players on the team." In addition, our players were able to collectively get a taste what it takes to be a college lacrosse player and what it means to be and become a Golden Bear. Thank you to our partners, US Sports Camps and the University of California Women's and Men's Lacrosse Teams, for these memorable weekends.
