Googling A Future

As part of the career and college exploration focus of our organization, we devote summer to enriching opportunities and activities. The cap this summer off, players had the great opportunity to visit Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA. Following a tour of the headquarters, players were able to have lunch at the campus and interview Googlers about what they do for their jobs. These employees all had something in common with our players, though, and that was playing lacrosse. Organized, team sports, namely lacrosse, offer so much more than the activity itself. They foster traits such as perseverence, accountability, and teamwork as well as helpful skills like time management, leadership, and adapting to setbacks. Our players discovered that what they learn through playing lacrosse and being a part of this team will stay with them through their lives and help them in their careers, whatever that may be. In addition to this, players learned about the different kinds of jobs that Google-which is so much more than a search engine!- has to offer including jobs in aeronatical imaging, human resources, and more. Mariana, an 8th grader, noted that she "...liked learning about the different jobs at Google, especially how they use airplanes and technology to create Google Maps." Thank you, Google, for showing us that you just never know where lacrosse can take you.
